West Welcomes Jose Villanueva

The Maine West branch of the American Field Service (AFS), once again, is sponsoring an exchange student from another country. His name is Jose Villanueva.

Jose is from the country of Venezuela. Venezuela is located on the northern coast of South America. The native language spoken in this country is Spanish. Therefore, speaking English on a regular basis is a new concept to him.

Jose is staying with the Lara family. Martha Lara, Jose's "sister," is a 1980 graduate of Maine West.

Jose has a great interest in soccer. He is currently playing on Maine West's varsity team.
Anyone who has met Jose is quick to say that he has a great sense of humor. He likes to tease other people!

The AFS Club also wishes to acknowledge John Whitney '84, a Maine West student who spent the summer in Mexico as an exchange student. In Mexico, John had stayed with a family and had one brother and two sisters.

John did not have to attend school in Mexico since it was during the summer. He spent much of his time playing football with his AFS "brother." While he was in Mexico, John had to speak Spanish to his family.
