Seniors Invited To Participate In Century III Program

Century III is offering Maine West seniors the opportunity to win scholarships by displaying their readiness toward facing the needs and challenges expected to confront the nation in the future.

The top prize in the Century III Leaders Scholarship Program is an $11,500 scholarship. Two students from each state will be chosen to win $1,500 scholarships and a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, in March of 1981. At this point, additional $500 scholarships will be given to nine finalists.

Students who enter the Century III competition are judged on their leadership abilities, community involvement, and
current events awareness. The school winner will also be required to write a brief projection outlining what he or she feels is a particular issue America is likely to confront in the future and how he or she feels such a challenge should be met.

"We feel the program is very worthwhile for reasons in addition to the scholarships and the Williamsburg trip," said Mr. James Coburn, principal. "We are encouraging seniors to participate because the Century III competition is a fine way for students to become more involved with the community and social issues."

The deadline for student submission of applications is Oct. 15.
