Gridmen Even Record

The Maine West football team got its season off to a rocky start losing to the Niles West Indians, 21-6. First quarter action saw the Warriors take a six-point lead when safety George Arvanitis intercepted a pass running it in 20 yards for the score. The extra point was missed. That soon vanished when the Indians came back in the second quarter with a 27-yard pass for the touchdown, and the extra point kick was good. The Indians completed the scoring with 14 points in the final quarter to win, 21-6.

The following Saturday the Warriors traveled to Maine South to face their arch rival Hawks. A more intense football team, the Warriors defeated the Hawks, 19-7. Kevin Clifford's runs of 84 and 25 yards gave West the lead. Slotback Mike Miller ran 20 yards for another score. The Warriors did what they had to do throughout practice, and this paid off for them in the game.
The Warriors came home to face the Highland Park Giants last night. The Warriors were going for a 2-1 mark.
