Kickers Look Good;
Record Holds at 2-2

The first Maine West soccer game was played at Hersey on Tuesday, Sept. 2. The sophomore level shut out Hersey by a score of 2-0. Goals were scored by Mike Page and Glenn Thomas. The varsity team also won with a final score of 2-1. Both goals of the varsity game were scored by Brian Weld.

On Saturday, Sept. 6, both levels lost to William Fremd High School. The sophomore team lost by a score of 4-0. The varsity team lost, 6-0.

On Wednesday, Sept. 10, Maine West hosted its game against Libertyville. The sophomore team tied 11. The goal was made by Glenn Thomas and assisted by Dan Wrona. The varsity team won, 6-1. Brian Weld scored three goals, two in the second quarter. Ken Fillipp, Lorenz Sollmann, and Himler Mando scored the remaining three goals. Assists were made by Ken Wrona, Dave Peterson, Kevin McCarthy, and Tom Coca.
The Warriors lost to Maine South on Friday, Sept. 12. The game was played at home. The sophomore level lost 5-0. The varsity team lost 4-2. Goals for the varsity game were scored by Ken Fillipp and Mike Chiropolis. The freshman team, at Maine South, lost 11-0.

Senior members of the varsity team this year are Tom Boeckenhauer, John Brenan, Mike Chiropolos, Kevin Hwang, Bill O'Connor, Steve Sobczak, Lorenz Sollman, Greg Stahl, Dave Steil, Jose Villanueva, and Brian Weld. Junior members include Tom Coca, Ken Fillipp, Dave Gad, Glen Gyssler, Steve Habetler, Joe Hall, John Hoferitza, John Katzbeck, John Kraushaar, Ralph Liquori, Kevin McCarthy, Dave Peterson, Tim Ryan, Brian Storts, Ken Wielgos, and Ken Wrona. Juniors Dave Blietz and Dave Matkovic are the goalies. Himler Mando and Pedro Perez are the sophomore members of the varsity team.
