| The Maine West girls' swim team recently began its 1980 season by beating Maine North last Thursday. The team is off to a good start and hopes to continue winning throughout the season. A total of 45 girls came out for the swim team. The varsity team is made up of junior and senior girls and some sophomore/girls selected by the new head coach, Mr. Scott Chovanec. The J.V. team consists mostly of freshmen and some sophomore girls-coached by the new assistant coach, Mrs. Judy Paulsen. |
There are also five girl divers coached by Mr. John Carle. The team practices every day, Monday through Saturday, from 3-5:30 p.m. They also have workouts with weights and muscle improving ex-ercises on the deck. The goals for this year are "To make sure everyone is working to think positive on a daily basis, to see that everyone can swim each stroke efficiently and effectively, and to discipline those individuals who will use these talents in future endeavors academically and athletically," says Coach Chovanec. |
