Council Planning Events For This Year, Next

Over 400 students participated in the '81-'82 Student Council Elections Apr. 22 and 23. The newlyelected officers are Kathie Lyons '82, president; Jackie Mudd '82, vice-president; Kim Williams '82, secretary; Joanna Hincker '83, treasurer; Jim Brust '82; sargent at arms; and Debbie Schoen '84, historian. Student Council Members of the Year are Greg Stahl '81 and Tom Wilhelm '84. Both representatives were elected at a recent S.C. meeting.

Five Maine North students were escorted around West by S.C. representatives on May 13. Maine West students were invited to North yesterday and to South today. The primary reason for the exchanges between Maine schools is for the students to see how each school differs in daily routines.

Students and faculty will have two reasons to place their loose change in the Penny Drive Box. Not only are all proceeds donated to the American Cancer Society, but each penny counts as a vote for either Mr. Jurinek, dean of boys, or one of four students to receive a pie of their choice. Corky Graczyk, S.C. president, will have the honor of presenting the pie in the face before homeroom next week in the cafeteria. The exact date will be announced later. Remember, every penny helps the prevention of cancer.
Maine West's first Cancer Awareness Day is today. Coordinator Ms. Gienko has arranged films, contests, and information booths dealing with the prevention of cancer. Anyone can participate in the Bike-A-Thon set for Sunday. Also, "Smoking Stinks" transfers are being ironed on by students in The Path.

Students can submit drawings for the '81-'82 Maine West Dialtone. All entries must be turned in to the S.C. Office (R-103) on an 8x10 sheet of paper by May 27. The S.C. Executive Board will judge and notify the winner.

Do you have an unusual idea for next year's Homecoming theme? If you do, tell your H.R. representative or drop a note in the Suggestion Box. Nominations will be held at the May 20 meeting. Who or what is a TAD you ask? On May 26 TAD will be at Maine West!

On April 9 Student Council received a letter from St. Louis, MI, in regard to a Homecoming balloon sent Oct. 17 at the football game. The balloon was found in a student's backyard in St. Louis.
