Boys' Gymnastics Sends Harris To State |
||||||||||
| The Maine West gymnastics team was looking good going into the Niles North gymnastics sectional meet. Their one and two all-around men, Mike McCabe and Tim Harris, had finished in first and second places at the Maine West Districts all-around competition. Wayne Fite, rings man, had placed second in the rings as had sophomore Don Paulsen. At the sectionals, the Warrior competitors, did not look good. Mr. Sid Drain, varsity gymnastics coach, said, "We haven't missed like that all year." |
Mike McCabe, a freshman, had a score of 6.71 in the all-around below what one needed to qualify at this year's state meet at Hersey High School. Senior Wayne Fite scored 7.75 in his event, the rings, which was not high enough to send him to the state meet. Sophomore ring partner, Don Paulsen, had a score of 5.5 in his event and can look forward to next year. Senior Tim Harris was the only Warrior qualifying for the state meet at Hersey. He averaged 6.1 in all-around but a 8.05 in the floor exercise, which did indeed get him into the state finals to compete in the floor event. |
