| The Maine West varsity football team's record went to 2-3 defeating Waukegan East, 24-8, and losing to Glenbrook South, 19-6. The Warriors traveled to Waukegan with Scott Becker scoring two touchdowns and gaining 63 yards. Kevin Clifford scored one touchdown and carried the ball 30 times for 131 yards for the day. The Warriors maintained control of the ball for almost three-fourths of the game not allowing the speedy Waukegan team a chance to do much. The following week the Warriors came home to face Glenbrook South in what was to become a very confusing game. After a scoreless first quarter, the Warriors sustained a good drive concluding in Bill Nicholas's run to lead with the extra point missed making the score 6-0. This was the score until the fourth quarter with 42 seconds left. |
Tim Hebbard went for the interception that slipped out of his hands, and the Glenbrook receiver caught the ball and ran 40 yards for the touchdown. The extra point was missed putting the game into overtime. Glenbrook had the ball first, and it wasn't until the fourth down when they passed for the score with the extra point good, making the score 13-6. When the Warriors got the ball, Tim Ophfer fumbled the ball, and a Glenbrook player picked it up and ran for the score making it 19-6. The sophomore record went to 2-3 losing to Waukegan East, 20-8. They also lost to Glenbrook South, 30-0. The freshman A team lost to Waukegan East, 22-14, and 44-8 to Glenbrook South. The B team beat Maine East, 6-0, and beat Glenbrook South, 30-8. |
