MW Parents, Teachers Become Acquainted at Fall Open House

The first night of the fall Open House was held from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. yesterday. The second night of the Open House will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

Parents whose last names begin with "A" through "L" were invited to come on Thursday. Parents whose names begin with "M" through "Z" are invited to come next Tuesday. If a parent can not come on his or her specific date, they were invited to come on the other date.

On Tuesday, as was the case on Thursday, school will be dismissed at 2:40 p.m. Homeroom through Period 6 will be on the usual bell schedule. Period 7 will be 1:11 p.m. to 1:37 p.m. Period 8a will be from 1:42 p.m. to 1:53 p.m. Period 8b will be from 1:58 p.m. to 2:09 p.m. Period 9 will be from 2:14 p.m. to 2:40 p.m.

"The Open House is intended to help parents and teachers become better acquainted, as well as to enable parents to find out more about the learning activities
in the classes of their sons and daughters," said Mr. John Graef, assistant principal. Open House is not intended for long conversations. If classrooms are crowded, conversations should be limited to two or three minutes for any set of parents.

In the past, teachers have asked the parents of students in their classes to act as hosts. Their job is to regulate the flow of visitors for each Open House night. Some teachers will not need a host, but teachers who expect many parents may ask for assistance. The host will help to control the lengths of the visits as well as to keep track of the order in which parents are to meet the teacher.

Teachers expect abut 1,000 pa-rents each night. The U and U Soci-ety (Ushers and Usherettes), sponsored by Mrs. Joan Plock, assist visitors. They provided directions and other information to parents during the first evening. They will also be assisting during the second evening.
