Fall Weather Chills Schooldays Often

BY CHRISTINE MIZZI

You're dreaming about the summer when suddenly Larry Lujack squeals over your clock radio to wake you up. Slowly you open your eyes and look over at your clock ...it's seven o'clock.

You then look over at your robe on the other side of the room and your nice, cold, wooden floor. Wondering how long it will take to run across the frost covered floor, you slowly peal off your blankets one by one by one by one ...and as you reach the final blanket, the cold autumn air hits you and you quickly throw the covers back over you.

You suddenly glance over at your clock and realize how long it's taken you to try to get out of bed. Curses fill your head for your father, who is too energy wise to turn on the heat until the middle of January. He claims that this way the heating bill won't be so high.
You finally get out of bed and put layer upon layer of long underwear, socks, shirts, sweaters, and other autumn items. Catch the bus, and you ride the bus assured that you are dressed warm enough to make it through your nine periods of the day.

You've made it through the whole day, and you made it through being the only one who was warm in gym class and physics.

As you walk out of E-wing, you hold your breath, ready for the chilled air. The sun hits you, the heat hits you, and the sweat pours like rain down your forehead. You laugh at yourself as you realize that in the unpredictable season of autumn, it is 85 degrees outside!
