Speech Team Shows Hope |

| The Maine West Speech Team opened this year's season with a first place Team Sweepstakes Trophy. The tournament, held at Crystal Lake Central High School on Saturday, Oct. 25, involved 22 suburban schools. Winning first place individual trophies were Lisa Marquette '81 in dramatic interpretation, Suzy Kadlec '82 in declamation, Andy McCune '82 in extemporaneous speaking, and Kathleen Brand '81 and Michael Stein '81 in humorous duet acting. Placing second were Catherine Jordan '82 in prose reading and Jim Teevans '81 and Lisa Marquette in humorous duet. On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Speech Team won its second tournament sweepstakes at Libertyville High School with 18 |
schools competing. Lisa Ochal placed first in verse reading, Suzy Kadlec received her second first place trophy in declamation, Laura Fisher and Jim Teevans placed first with their dramatic duet, and Jim Teevans also placed first with his humorous interpretation. Ed Johnson, '82 placed second in original comedy, and Kathleen Brand and Michael Stein placed second in humorous duet. Pam Peca '81 placed third with her prose reading; and Lori Stein. David Ratner '82, and Michael Stein placed fourth in their events. Maine West has consistently had successful Speech Teams, and these two tournaments seem to be proof that they will continue their winning ways for another season. |
