Maine North Students To Become Warriors

Next fall many new faces not belonging to freshmen will be seen around Maine West's halls. These faces will be the property of students who attend Maine North this year.

With Maine North closing at the end of the year, its students will have to be moved to both Maine East and Maine West. The displaced students coming here will be confused about a different operating procedure, lonesome for their friends attending Maine East, and above all sore that their school had to be the one to close. Many students from the Class of 1982 who would have been up for leadership positions in Maine North clubs will feel doubly out of place entering into Maine West organizations with set club officers.
What can Maine West students do to make the Maine North people feel welcomed? First of all, don't make jokes about Maine North. Not only will jokes make the Norsemen miss their school, but jokes also just might earn the jokester a punch in the mouth. Secondly, be nice to the people from Maine North. Treat them as if they came from a different state instead of a rival school. Relationships would be facilitated by a little common courtesy on Maine West's part.

Some of you may feel these suggestions are premature since the Maine North people will not be here until fall. Many Maine West students, however, already know Maine North students. If the Maine West students start making the Maine North students feel welcome now, these people will feel a great deal easier about coming to Maine West next fall.
