Teevans Named Winner In
Voice of Democracy

The local winner of this year's Voice of Democracy contest has been announced. Jim Teevans '81 has been chosen as the Maine West winner.

Jim's essay will now compete on the local level. If it is successful, it will go on to the district and then state competition. Jim's competition at the school level was Tom Shmitt '82 and Helen Monaghan '81.
The topic of this year's theme was "My Commitment to My Country." The students were asked to write a positive view on this theme. The themes were intended to voice the writer's opinion of his responsibility to his country.

This competition was opened to all tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students.

Of this type of competition, Mr. Eric Edstrom, Social Science chairman, stated, "We encourage students to participate."
