However, they could not outscore a 16-3 deficit and ended up losing the meet with Ricky Fang, Kelleher, Maxwell, and Schulte winning. The following weekend the Warriors traveled to Niles North where they defeated Niles with help from the heavier weights. On Dec. 5 the Warriors traveled to New Trier West where they defeated the Cowboys, 48-10. Dave Paxon, Jack Arrigo, Chris Freeman, Fang, Whitney, Maxwell, Niebow, Hilliard, and Schulte all won. On Dec. 12 the Warriors traveled to Fenton where they faced Fenton and Forest View. Winners were Jim Hanson, Arrigo, Freeman, Fang, Whitney, Kelleher, Maxwell, Niebow, Hilliard, Schulte, and newcomer Scott Keane with an impressive victory. After the Warriors defeated Forest View and Fenton defeated St. Joseph, the Warriors came up against Fenton. Freeman wrestled two-time State Champion Ed Giese and was pinned. The winners were Bob Barringer, Maxwell, and Schulte. Schulte and Maxwell are |
currently undefeated in six bouts, while Whitney has a 4-1 record and Hilliard, Freeman, and Fang are at 4-2. Kelleher is at 3-2 and Niebow has a record of 3-3. Coach Gary Hutchinson commented, "We have a very strong team comprised mostly of sophomores with outstanding jobs done by sophomores Neal Gillespie, Cesar Blanco, Mike Dorion, and Dan Brown, and senior captain John Spratt. However, our real test will come later in the season against Glenbrook North, Palatine, Maine East, and Niles West. We expect to be right up there when the conference meet starts." Last year JV I was 5-1 in conference taking first place. JV II was also 5-1 in conference and tied for first place. The freshman wrestlers have a 3-1 record. Their only loss came in the second meet of the season when Prospect won seven matches to the Warriors' six. Twenty-six boys are currently on the squad, and more will join before the end of the season as they learn the sport in their gym classes. John Dekelaita, Rich Kanowske, Shawn Hyken, Nick Bellino, Time Judson, John Fabbri, Chris Marquette, Rich Kiecka, George Eldredge, Al Ramos, Jim Freese, Tom Delaney, Bob Makuch, Dan Rateike, Dave Salerno, Rich Cooper, Tom Ochal, George Iatrides and Brandon Sellers have comprised the starting lineup. |
