Senior Joanne Mukai Wins Good Citizen Award of DAR

Joanne Mukai '81 was announced as the winner of the Good Citizen Award. This contest is sponsored by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Joanne, who is captain of the varsity cheerleading squad, was nominated by the Senior Class and chosen by the faculty. Dependability, patriotism, and leadership are the qualities which Joanne was chosen. Ms. Gahan Jacobs, guidance counselor, supervised the election.

Each student selected to represent the school as Good Citizen will receive a DAR Good Citizen pin and certificate of award. Seven state division winners will be presented at the DAR state conference, which will be held at the
Drake Hotel in Chicago on Mar. 28. All state division winners will receive a series EE savings bond which has a value of $50. The State Good Citizen will be chosen from the seven division winners. He or she will be awarded a $100 Education Award and the State Good Citizen pin. The state winner is then entered in the National DAR Good Citizen contest where the winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Joanne is not only captain of the varsity cheerleading squad, but is also Student Council secretary, tennis team player, president of the Brotherhood Society, and was on last quarter's high honor roll. She plans on attending University of Illinois' School of Business and hopes to major in accounting.
