Girl Cagers Dominate;
Finish With a 23-2 Mark

The Maine West girls' basketball team ended their regular season this year as the conference champions. The girls' record was 23-2 before last Monday's game.

The Maine West girls' basketball team is the only basketball team ever to make it as far as it has. The girls lost to Glenbrook North and Maine South.

On Thursday night, Feb. 26, the basketball team beat Waukegan East, 54-40. On Saturday, Feb. 28, the basketball team lost to the Maine South Hawks, 47-46, ending its 17 game winning streak. After the girls lost to Maine South, they came back to beat Wheeling, 64-36, on Tuesday, Mar. 3.
The Warriors starting five for the team are usually Doreen DeHosa, Donna Logisz, Debbie Guetzloff, Mary Just, and Sharon Wydra. The girls' basketball team had a chance of going down state if they had won last Monday night's game against Niles West. The final score was 47-41. The team the Warriors faced last Monday consisted of: Becky Schnell, Judy Banathy, Cindy Michals, Karyn Kaufman, Holly Anderson, and head Coach Gene Earl. The Maine West girls' basketball teams head coach is Mr. Gene Zuccarini.

The Maine West basketball team has three out of the starting five of the team leaving after this year. With three out of the five leaving this season, the Maine West girls' basketball team still looks promising for next year.
