| Colorful banners, promising flyers, and eye-catching buttons made this year's S.C. Officer Elections a major event at Maine West. All students were eligible to vote for their candidates Wednesday and Thursday in the cafeteria during 1-7 period, if they showed ID. Three highly qualified juniors ran for the office of president. Kathy Lyons was representative for three years, holding the office of treasurer last year and historian this year. Mark "Groucho" Mertes, presently the sergeant at arms, keeps all meetings in order. Kathy Waters has been involved in S.C. for three years and has been a member of Quad Council this past year. Both Rosanne Dragin '82 and Jackie Mudd '82 ran for the office of vice-president. Kim Williams '82 will be next year's secretary. Nominations for treasurer were taken at last week's meeting. Adrian Alvarez '84, Johanna Hincker '83, and Laura Maxwell '84 were nominated. Representatives then voted. Jim Brust '82 and Jean Anderson '84 will be sergeants at arms, and Debbie Schoen '84 will be historian next year. |
"Jam into Spring" will take place next Saturday night with "Nemisis" and "Shattered Image." These bands were chosen by Student Council representatives who listened to six bands' try-out tapes turned in by Maine West students. The Jam will take place in B-wing gym beginning at 7:30 p.m. Each band will play for one hour. While the second band sets up, Laurie Nissen '81, Jean O'Keefe '82, and Janet Fillips '81, who recently performed in the V-Show, will entertain the crowd with their musical talent. Tickets are limited. Only 400 will be sold in the bookstore for $2 each. Upcoming Events: Penny Drive, Maine Schools Exchange, Teachers' Appreciation Day (TAD), Student-Administration Communication Seminar and an ice cream social. |
