Girls' Track Doing Well In Recent Competitions

This past week the Maine West girls' track team split in two triangular meets. They defeated Waukegan East and Prospect but lost to Glenbrook South and Schaumburg.

Field event coach Mr. Robert Steffey was impressed with the double victories of Sharon Wydra in the high jump and long jump and Jeanne Tortotelli's effort in the high jump. Chris Nelson and Karyn Wall also scored for West in the long jump.

Lynn Kuhlmann and Kathy Waters continued to dominate their rivals in the shot and discus. Coach Barb Wagoner's charges outscored all opposition 34 to 10 in triangular meet competition.
Maine West's sprint relays could do no better than second to Glenbrook South and Schaumburg but the baton exchanges of Laura Derken, Sherre Hussar, Linda Diezel, Deanne Dzil and Eileen Hora have improved with each meet.

Lory Tonske's victories in the 3200 metre and 1600 meter runs continue to pace West's distance runners and Julie Becker's times in the 1600 meter are improving with each and every meet, according to Head Coach William Kiddie.

The area of biggest improvement in the 1981 season has been among West's 400 meter runners. McCormac, Wail and Dunteman all have run good quarter mile races for the Warriors. The next girls' track meet is away at New Trier West on Apr. 27.
