New schedule ends problems
Rescheduling the homecoming parade and football game to a Saturday instead of a Friday night has angered many students. However, a closer look at this new schedule reveals many good reasons for the new order of events.
The Booster Club Pancake Breakfast, which begins at 7:30 a.m., will now give persons preparing the floats on Saturday morning a chance to eat breakfast and discuss the necessary preparations for finishing the floats, thus providing even more revenue for the Booster Club.
Scheduling the parade at 4:00 p.m. has caused many inconveniences in the past. Traffic must be rerouted and with rush hour in full swing many motorists are angered. The new Saturday morning parade time will alleviate this problem.
In addition to traffic rerouting, spectator turnout has not been large in past years. We attribute this problem to the fact that people are either at work, on their way home or eating dinner at this time. A Saturday morning parade time will allow more parents to view the parade.
Another problem caused by the 4 p.m. parade time was a disruption in Friday afternoon classes. Many students had to be excused from their ninth period classes on Friday in order to complete the floats. With the building of floats scheduled for Saturday morning, no more class time must be used.
Friday night football games have also caused many alumni to miss the game since they must travel great distances to return to Maine West's Homecoming. A Saturday afternoon game will allow more alumni to attend and thus bring back the true meaning of Homecoming.
Rescheduling the events will boost attendance at the Pancake Breakfast, alleviate rush hour traffic, and allow more alumni to return to the game, thus the new schedule should prove to be most enjoyable for all.
