Orchesis presents 'street themes'
The Orchesis Dance Club will present its annual dance show, "Dancing in the Streets," in the theater on March 4 and 5 at 8 p.m.

This year's show is built on "street‑type" themes. The opening number is performed to the Van Halen song, "Dancing in the Streets."

Mrs. Kathy Lawyer, Orchesis sponsor, said, "The two hour show will have tap, jazz, modern, ballet, character, and even Hawaiian dancing in it." For two months before the show, the members select music and choreograph numbers and decide on special lighting and costuming. Maria Schroeder '85 is in charge of designing the cover of the program.
Mrs. Lawyer also stated, "Orchesis is a group of students that are interested in dancing, performing, and learning how to put together a show. 'Dancing in the Streets' is a culmination of those elements."

The show is primarily paid for by the sale of candy bars during the school year by the members of Orchesis. This money pays for lighting, sound, programs, and tickets and some of the special props. What is left of the money partially pays for costumes while the members of the Dance Club must pay the remaining amount.

This year the show will consist of 26 numbers and 43 dancers. Featured dances include solos by Julie Becker '83, Maria Schoeder '85, Tina Pasternak '84 and Orchesis President Lynn Mueller '84. Lynn said, "I think the dance show is pulling together real well." Mrs. Lawyer added, "I'm pleased with the progress and it will be a good show."
