Varsity Track Team posts 8-1 record

Maine West's 1982-83 varsity track team currently posts a very respectable 8-1 win-loss record. In addition to that, the team recently placed fourth in the annual Blue Demon Relays held at Maine East.
The team started the year with a series of triangular meets against various schools from the area. In the first meet, the Warriors were able to outdistance the competition with a score of 68 points to New Trier's 58 and Ridgewood's 27. The Warriors then defeated Conant and Stevenson with a score of 63 to 59 and 37 respectively.
The following weekend the team suffered its first loss against Loyola High School. The Warriors were unable to keep up with Loyola as they went down by a score of 94‑SO. The team was able to bounce back to hand Arlington a 50 to 6 defeat.
Individually the varsity team is basically composed of seniors. Bill Friday '83 currently holds the best indoor time for the 880 yd. run with a 1:56.5 clocking. The varsity also has a 2‑mile relay team composed of Jesse Bozzman '83, Bill Friday '83, Dan Nelson '83 and Tony Paul '83 which ranks 8th in the state with a 18:18 timing.
Other seniors such as Ray Shelton, Mike Bennett, Brandy and Brian Weder are all concentrating on their respective events. "We don't have a lot of depth but we have everyone doing two or three events and they have been doing an outstanding job contributing. Its been a total team effort," said Coach Ron Brown.
The freshman team posts an undefeated 9-0 record. The freshman team competes with the varsity but at the respective levels.
