West selects Dorion, Just
Athletes of the Year
Through competing on four teams during her years at Maine West, Mary Just has earned recognition as "Athlete of the Year".

As a forward on the basketball team, Mary was voted to the Central Suburban Conference Team four times, Captain and best player of the All‑Area Team, a member of the Marshall Tournament Team, and the AllState First Team this year.

Mary has broken nine school records and was voted Most Valuable Player this year. Mary played in Europe for two years on the All Star Team.

A four season volleyball player, Mary was Most Valuable Player, all conference, and all area for three years. She was also All‑State for one year. Ms. Tipton praises Mary "as the strongest player to ever play at Maine West. She made the difference between winning or losing".

Mary was the first girl to be All State in two sports. She was, as Coach Tipton put it, "The best volleyball player I've coached in 14 years, truly an All State athlete."

Mary also participated in softball and track. She will attend Northwestern University on a volleyball scholarship.
Mike Dorion was named Male Athlete of the Year at Maine West.

Mike wrestled at 185 pounds and placed fifth at the state tournament. Mike was first in regionals and sectionals and was All‑Conference. He won a first place at the Lake Park Tournament and was voted the most outstanding wrestler at the tournament. Mike also came in first at the Glenbard West Tournament.

Mike broke the school win and pin record by recording 22 pins and a 36-3 record.

Mike was also voted the Tribune Athlete of the Week two times this year. Mike played middle linebacker for the Warrior football team. Mike was an All‑Conference linebacker, and voted to the Daily Herald's second All‑Area team.
