Communication aids understanding
I have learned more this year as Student Council President than in any of my other years here at Maine West. I attribute this to my close dealing with more people and having clearer communication and a close understanding. I feel that communication with people is very important. The more communication between people, the easier it is to deal with them.

Dealing with people on a day-to‑day basis is more of a learning experience to me than reading from a book. The reason is that every person one meets and shares with is another chapter in an unending book.

I hope that all the incoming freshmen, our sophomores, and our juniors and next year's seniors, work on an understanding basis with each other, teachers, counselors and all they come in contact with. A better understanding of those we work with leads to a path for a more successful future.
In my years here, I often did not follow this advice, I wish I had. My first year here I told myself I would not get involved with anything or anyone. Well, that obviously did not happen, and I am glad. I met many people who had a great deal to teach me and share with me. If one opens up his mind to other people's ideas and dreams, they suddenly become your ideas and dreams. These things only will become reality when people show a little faith and, again, understanding.

These final words I speak not just for myself but for many of the outgoing seniors. We wish everyone great success in life and that they find understanding, happiness and joy, for that is what the class of '83 is going out to look for and many will find.

In closing I would like to thank all my old and new friends I met here at Maine West for making my four years memorable. A special thanks to that one teacher who I could always count on to be there with words of wisdom and truth. Thanks to everyone.
