State consumers test exempts students from required class

On September 9, 1986, 148 Maine West students took a Consumers test, which, if they receive a passing score, will exempt them from having to complete a Consumers Education Course.

Consumers Ed. here at West is a quarter long class for a quarter of a credit. If a student passes the test he does not have to take the class, nor does he receive a credit.

Mr. Johnson, student personnel director, stated, "If a student has taken and passed General Business, Home Planning/ Interior Design, or Consumers Ed. already, there's no advantage in taking the exam,"

"It is a state mandated exam," explained Mr. Johnson. "Our whole district gave the test and we follow the guidelines set down by the state."

At the beginning of next year the test will be given again to students in any class level who wish to take it.
South hosts college night

Maine Township will again host one of the largest college nights of any in the State of Illinois. This year, College night will be Wednesday, October 1, from 7: 00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Maine South High School.

Over 200 colleges and universities will be represented October 1, either by alumni or admissions personnel. They can answer questions about curriculum offerings, admissions, tuition, housing, and campus life. Many will bring applications or provide students an opportunity to sign up on their mailing lists.

The evening will be divided into three 40 minute sessions. Students may move freely among the representatives in the gymnasium and cafeteria all evening or attend a 40 minute presentation by those colleges who have requested private classrooms. A financial aid presentation will be held during each of the first two sessions in the C-145 lecture hall.
