"Foreigner" cast prepares for
upcoming performance
by Heather Wallace

This year's Fall play "The Foreigner" is a farce‑comedy by Larry Shue.

Mr. Ron Mills, director, states, We had a big turnout for tryouts, therefore to get as many people involved as possible we "double cast" the main characters. Unfortunately, even with the main characters "double cast" we had to turn some people away." Those characters "double cast" will perform one show and one dress rehearsal each.

Starring in the play are Matt Esser '88 and John Meyers '87 as Charlie Baker: Katherine Burke '89 and Kathy Hudgens '88 as Betty Meeks: and Michelle Klingelhofer '88 and Veronica Mills '87 as Catherine Simms. Michelle Chartier '87 is the stage manager.
The plot of the "The Foreigner" revolves around two Englishmen who visit a small southern resort in Georgia. One of the men wants to escape from everything, so he pretends that he does not know any English, in hopes that no one will try to talk to him. As a result, explains Mr. Mills. "he gets involved in personal problems, and political intrigue among other things."

Mr. Mills feels that this play is "very enjoyable to work with since it is very funny.' He also thinks that this particular play is challenging because, "it is necessary to create comic action which requires creativity." Matt Esser '88 adds, "I really enjoy being in this particular show because all the characters equally contribute to the plot, and the show is very fast moving, with witty comedy."

"The Foreigner" will be presented on Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11. Curtain time is 8 p.m. and admission is $2.50.
