Golfers wrap up tough year
by Amit Joshi

This years golf season has finally come to a close for the Maine West Warriors. Although the golf team finished with a 2-11 record, they have high hopes for next year. The Freshman - Sophomore team finished with a promising 4-8 record.

Coach Zuccarini was "disappointed" because he felt that the team did not play up to its full potential. "1 hope we can come back next year and improve,'' stated the coach.

Coach Zuccarini also felt that Maine West had a very tough schedule. He thinks that Glenbrook South, Deerfield, and New Trier have large golf programs that over power he Maine West program.

"The key for our team," states Coach Zuccarini. "is our beating one of the power houses such as Deerfield next year." The Coach feels that if the Warriors beat one of those teams, the players will gain a "tremendous amount of confidence."

The Coach expects the team to improve next year, mainly because only one senior is leaving, so many players will be returning. "We're going to have 7 varsity players returning next year so we look pretty strong in experience," states Coach Zuccarini.
Coach Zuccarini believes James Taylor 88' and John Linning 89' are the best two golfers on the team in their respective squads.

"John shows a lot of promise," states Coach Zuccarini, "He is a very accurate golfer who recently shot a 77 and finished first in conference."

John Linning feels that even though the Warriors had a losing season, they will be able to rebound next year. Linning states, "We hope to come in at least at .500 next year because of a large returning varsity squad.

James Taylor states, "I had fun out there on the courses even though we had a losing season." He also feels that the team has a lot of potential for next year. Taylor's goal for next year is qualifying for the state meets.

Overall, Coach Zuccarini states, "We don't expect to go downstate next year as a team, however, we hope to be a competitive team.
