Underclass Cheerleaders Chosen
From 48 Hopefuls

Sophomores Nancy Hulke, Patti Kargas, Donna Meier, and freshmen Linda Drews, Sandy Kunkel, and Cindy Schorr cheered their way onto the frosh‑soph cheerleading squad, Friday, September 16.

The girls were taught the cheers by the Varsity squad in the cheerleading clinic held September 11‑12. Forty‑eight girls participated in the preliminaries held September 13. Of the 48 girls, 15 finalists were chosen.

The finalists were sophomores N. Hulke, P. Kargas, D. Meier, L. Pease, and J. Van Ruth. The frosh finalists were S. Cober, A. Dickison, L. Drews, C. Jacobs, D. Keller, G. Knudsen, S. Kunkel, L. Rickey, C. Schorr, and L. Wright.

Pep, voice, jumps, coordination, cheer personality, and school representation are the qualities the judges looked for in the girls. The judges for the finals were Butch Bending '62, vice‑president of Student Council; Barb Larsen '62, president of Pep club; Sandy Mustradi '62, captain of Varsity cheerleaders; Miss Sandra Casey, Mr. Richard Frey, and Miss Martha Peterson, faculty.

"I was in the bath tub," confessed Cindy, "and almost cut my leg with the shaver when I found out I had made it!"

"I still can't believe it!" exclaimed Nancy, "I was so happy when I found out I had made it that I cried!"
