Bruce Fights Homework
"Will the meeting please come to order," is a familiar statement in Student Council from President Bruce Johns.

Activities piled up for this young lad include M-club, Junior class president, and delegate to the National and State Student Council conventions and to the State workshop. He lettered in swimming his sophomore year and also participates in cross country.

Bruce, a 5 foot 11 inch blond enthusiast of rifle shooting, rates orange jello with mandarin oranges as his favorite food, with steak coming in second.
"I've found a way to fight! homework," laughed Bruce. "I go to bed at 7 and get up at 2. It's different, but it works."

After a trip to Washington, D.C., this past summer, Bruce started his active campaign to learn to fight communism. "I'd like to see more people learn about communism and its basic facts in order to help in our nation's fight against Krushchev and his totalitarian government," Bruce stated.

Commenting on Maine West, Bruce feels we lack school spirit and pep. "We need bigger crowds at our games, especially in minor sports!" he asserted.

President Johns' main plan for Student Council this year is to get a foreign exchange student. He also said, "I wish the students would take a more active part in life's first attempt to teach democracy. I don't think the students actually realize what Student Council is. Come out and back Student Council in all projects. Remember, it's the prime service organization of the school."

As for future plans, Bruce wants to attend college but has also been considering a naval academy. He'll major in chemistry.
