Coach Blake Bows at West
Mr. Ross Blake, new assistant cross country coach commented, "We have the potential for a winning team this year. We have four returning lettermen in Lee Wolf '62, Mike Canar '62, Vic Oakly '62, and Bob Jonas '62.
"Our first meet at Barrington wasn't a bit discouraging. We ran a good race, considering that two of our top runners Lee Wolf, and Don Seagren '62, weren't in the race. We had our top sophomore runner, Carl Meyer, running on varsity. Even with this handicap our frosh-soph team won. I have never seen a team with such spirit and determination."
Mr. Blake is in the mathematics department at Maine West and has six years of teaching experience behind him. He taught at Chatsworth High school for two years, and the other four years were spent in Reed Custer High school, also in Illinois. He was a baseball and basketball coach at both schools. He attended Culver Stockton college in Canton, Mo., where he lettered in basketball and baseball. Coach Blake did his post graduate work at the University of Illinois and was graduated with a masters degree in mathematics.
At Amundsen High school Mr. Blake lettered in baseball and basketball. He was a member of the basketball team that went to the state finals.
