Harriers Battle Elements For Tie
With West Leyden
In spite of a make-shift course Maine West's varsity harriers came home from West Leyden Tuesday with a 28 1/2 - 28 1/2 tie, in their first Interim League meet of the season.

Because of heavy rains preceding the meet, West Leyden's regular field was flooded, and an emergency course had to be marked off. The approximately two-mile run (four times around the school) was barred by a low fence over which runners had to hurdle several times. "It looked more like a steeplechase than a cross country run," remarked coach Bill Barringer after the meet.
The first six Warrior finishers and their times were Ron Erdman '63 (11:22) 2nd, Vic Oakley '62 (11:23) tied for 3rd, Mike Canar '62 (11:35) 6th, Scott Taylor '63 (11:50) 8th, Jim Witkay '63 (11:55) 9th, and Bob Jonas '62 (11:58) 10th.

The first home meet this season will be tomorrow morning at 9:30 against Wheaton. According to Coach Barringer, this should be a tough meet.
