"Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is Charles Collingwood from Person to Person. Today we are going to interview that man of jazz, who swings the top of his brown crew‑cut down 5 feet 9 inches to his little toe, Jack (Hotlips) Wffliams. Are you there, Jack?"
"Yes, Charles, how are you?"
"Jack, how did you get your start in music?"
"Well, Charlie, in high school I was in concert band, show band, and the Belltones."
"I understand you were also in Tri-M and National Honor society besides being the student music director for V-show."
"Yes, I had quite a time in school, but some things really got on my nerves."
"Like what?"
"Well, for one thing, we had one of the greatest music departments and all the students should have been proud of it, but.
"But they weren't?
"That's right! They didn't even give it a chance."
"Jack, tell me, has anything really embarrassing happened to you?"
"Ha, ha, ha, . . .

"Something must really be funny."
"I was just thinking of a time in high school when I was parked and. . ."
"Yes! Yes!"
"And along came my friends (?) and started rocking the car. That really was embarrassing."
"Did you ever think you would become a great trumpet player?"
"Well, no, Charles. You see in high school my favorites were math and music. After I got out of college, I had planned to be a math teacher but jazz proved more fascinating."
"Would you like to show us around your apartment?"
"Why certainly! First of all I'd like you to see my swimming pool."
"It's shaped like your trumpet!"
"Yes, my favorite hobbies are swimming, reading, and golf."
"Hey, I smell something burning."
"Help, that's my pizza. I just love pizza, steak, and ice cream. Well, good‑bye."
"So long, Jack, and good night, everyone."
