Clubbing Around
New Boat Club Is Started

Building small boats, enjoying a cruise, and establishing a fleet for sailing and racing purposes entail the future plans of the newly formed Boat club at Maine West sponsored by Mr. Richard Carlini physical education teacher at West.

The purpose of the Boat club is to foster interest in boating, teach boating skills, and promote the use of the new lake park in Des Plaines. This organization will prepare members for the Des Plaines Yacht club which they may join upon reaching the age of 21.

"Boating is a fine activity for teenagers and there is much to be derived from it. Also, boating is a great carry‑over to adult life," related Mr. Carlini.

Club members will be taught navigation procedures, boat and engine care, rules of the road for boats, and Marlin Spike's seamanship.

Mr. Carlini once sponsored the Boat club at Maine East. However, it was hard for him to take the club when he was transferred to Maine West because his coaching interfered. After requests by many students, Mr. Carlini is again sponsoring the Boat club at Maine West.

"Owning a boat is not necessary for membership in the club, and everybody is welcome to join," urged Mr. Carlini.

Pegasus Club

The third annual Pegasus club horse show will take place at Idle Hour stables in Park Ridge on April 27 at 7:30 p.m.

"One of the highlights of the show," commented Mrs. Jeanine Jekel, sponsor of the club, "will be the teacher's class. Last year this class was won by Miss S. Kantoff, a practice teacher. Second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth places were taken by Mr. Gerald Royer, Mr. Edwin Atkinson, Mr. Ralph Caprio, Miss Barbara Bovenmeyer, and Miss Mae Jean Engen, respectively.

Also on the agenda will be the sale of letterhead stationary. The letterheads will be of horses of all different types in many varied positions.
