Franzen Gets New Trophy

Main attraction, other than the food, at the annual spring Sports banquet Tuesday evening was the presentation of awards.

A new award this year was the free‑throw trophy presented by the Optimists' club. This went to Barney Franzen, who had a 71 per cent average.

Other basketball awards went to Al Waters, most valuable player; and captaincy to Rick Warnicke for the varsity. For the sophs, Charles Esposito, most valuable; John Gabbert and Les Jannusch, co‑captains. Ted Wolter, most valuable; and Andrew Jackson, captain were honored from the frosh.

Varsity wrestling saw Bob Petkus, most valuable; with Don Hansen becoming captain. For JV, Dick Battles was selected captain with Ken Lamotte, most valuable. Ed Riedel was named captain with Bob Larson, most valuable for the sophs. From the frosh, Dick Burson was selected as captain and Allen Kruse, most valuable.

Philip Wankat was voted the captaincy for varsity swimming, while Alan Koch got most valuable. Jim Byrne for the frosh‑soph was the new captain with Jim Hyerdall, most valuable.

In gymnastics Bill Downing was most valuable with Sal DeFalco getting the captaincy for the varsity. Among the froshsoph Tom Roessing won the most valuable while Stealey Branch and Dave Woollard shared the captaincy.
