Saari Wins $100 Scholarship In
American Legion Contest

John Saari '62, has won the annual American Legion Constitution contest and will be awarded a $100 scholarship to the college of his choice when he is certain which he will enter. Bruce Smith '62, is runnerup. Both will receive a photograph of the event.

Michael Enriquez '63, Joan Hanke '63, Sue MacHattie '63, and Roxanne Orloff '63, as the remaining contestants, will each receive a photograph and an invitation extended by Mr. George H. Eck Sr. commander of the Des Plaines post number 36, to one of the meetings of the American Legion where they will observe the normal meeting procedures, including refreshments afterwards.

The six contestants will not be allowed to enter again, but, "The experience was excellent," remarked Mrs. Alice B. Aegerter, history teacher and school official present at the final exam. "These students certainly must know their Constitution now."

Each student was quizzed orally for 15 to 20 minutes on his personal interpretation of the

Constitution and his knowledge of current events and their relation to the Constitution. As Mrs. Aegerter has noted, "Both the winner and the runner‑up were seniors, and remaining contestants were all juniors. It is evident that these juniors were at a disadvantage because they only recently completed the American history study of the government."
