Dear Editor,
I would like to express my views on a very controversial subject - social dancing. The students I've talked to usually have been against it for one reason or another. With the girls, dancing rarely seems to be a problem, but with the boys, it's different.
I think with a little thought, this idea could be turned into something very enjoyable for everyone concerned. Most of the boys would really like to learn to dance if they were given the right opportunity. This opportunity isn't offered the way the classes are run now.
Here are three ways I think the classes can be improved. First, some serious teaching of the fundamental dance steps is needed. Second, the goofing around should be stopped. Third, and most important, the classes should be arranged so there is the same number of boys as girls. It makes the boys turn "chicken" fast if they see 20 of their buddies leaning against the wall laughing at them. If all the boys had to dance at the same time, it would help things tremendously.
