West's varsity golf team started the season off with a tight 172-175 win over East Leyden last Monday. Tim Richards and Doug Seagren each turned in 39's for the nine-hole round played at White Pines.

Chuck Hughes and Bill Kautter had 47's to round out the Warrior's total. The stickmen will play against Prospect Monday, April 16.

Doug and Tim are the only two returning lettermen this year. The team has been handicapped by the weather which has kept them in the track area during early season practice. Coach David Henry had had the team working on putting, driving, and form.

"The team wound up in second division last year," reminisced Coach Henry. "This year, in a field of 13 teams, the outcome is pretty much of a toss‑up. A large factor in this. comes from the difficulty o f scouting a team in practice."
