Netmen Edge Knights, 3-2
The varsity racketmen have a heavy schedule in front of them over the spring vacation. They will meet Niles East, East Leyden, and Deerfield, all at home, on April 14, 17, and 19.
The Warriors edged Prospect 3-2 in their first conference match, Tuesday. A couple of doubles victories by Joe Figard-Scott MacDonald and Chuck Anderson-Steve Priest and a singles win by Terry Albers gave West the close decision over the Knights. John Bernero and Jim Gaverth were downed in singles competition.
In its first two non-conference tilts, the tennis team was downed by Blue Island 4-1 and blanked by Waukegan 5-0. Both of these teams are highly regarded in their own leagues.
Coach Roy Kearns expect his teams to show quite a bit of improvement over last year, although the recent absence of Letterman Bill Sopper because of illness has weakened the team.
