Weightlifting Requires Skill

Results from the Junior class intramural weightlifting tournament show the winner Larry McKone, who lifted a total of 460 lbs. in three lifts. This was done by jerking 185 lbs., pressing 165, and curling 125. Larry disclosed that he has been lifting weights since eighth grade.

Weightlifting has paid off, too, as proved by Larry's 15 1/2 inch neck, 14 1/2 inch biceps, 44 inch chest, and a 29 inch waist. According to Larry, a person should begin lifting with a light weight and gradually increase the poundage. "No person should start right in and expect to turn into an Atlas overnight. It takes time and perseverance," he emphasized.

Dennis Rowley placed second with Jerry Jerome, fifth; Tom Lenhart, fourth; and Ken LaMotte, third.

In the senior division, Terry Pestel was top man with a total of 405 pounds, also in three lifts. Runners‑up were Mike Koulentes, second, and Bob Jonas, third.
