"My biggest thrill at Maine West was last year when I pitched against Niles West," recall Bob Lorentz, this week's Warrior. "I felt pretty good even though we did lose."
Bob, a letter‑winner in three sports, is currently a first string pitcher for Coach Al Carstens' varsity diamondmen and has been a regular since last year. At present he comprises one‑third of West's starting pitching staff.
Showing versatility, Bob was also a football quarterback last fall, becoming the squad's top distance kicker. Hampered somewhat by a shoulder separation, he still proved to be a hard‑hitting back. He moves around pretty fast for his size and managed to earn a starting berth on the basketball team this winter. An aggressive player, he notched 190 points for the cagers.
Although practices usually keep him pretty busy after school, he likes to watch Bandstand whenever he can. Movies are another favorite activity. Labeling speech as his favorite subject, Bob indicated that immediate post‑graduation plans call for enrolling at Mississippi university.
