6 Boys, 1 Girl Go To State

Local sponsoring organizations have made it possible for six boys and one girl to attend Boys' and Girls' state this year according to Mr. Glen Hoffman, acting chairman of the social science department.

John Aegerter, sponsored by the American Legion auxiliary; Ed Churney, by Fastex Division of Illinois Tool Works; Barney Franen, Elks Lodge No. 1526; Dan Humay, American Legion; Bob Pawlowski, Optimist club; and Frank

Vaia. Military Order of Cooties, are the juniors who will represent Maine West. Carol Ann Barret '63 will be sponsored by the American Legion auxiliary.

Boys' state is held at Springfield during the week of June 24-30. Each appointee undergoes a program of citizenship and leadership education. Representatives run for offices and form a governmental functionary group. Girls' state is held at Jacksonville on MacMurray college campus.
