Juniors Barbara Georgans, Sue Hume, and Nancy Merret, and sophomores Nancy Hulke, Patty Kargas, and Donna Meier were chosen for the varsity cheerleading squad finalists.

There were no preliminaries, just practices which were held April 24‑27.

The judges for the finals were Sandy Mustradi '62, captain of the present varsity cheerleaders; Marilyn Probst '62, captain of the Pom Pom squad; Chuck Weil '62, M‑Club representative; Miss Mae Jean Engen, Miss Kathryn Pierce, and Miss Martha Peterson, all physical education teachers; and Mr. Sidney Drain, gymnastics coach.

Contestants were judged on their pep, coordination, "cheer" personality, personal reactions, jump, voice, and on how they would represent Maine West.
