After four years of "blood, sweat, and tears," the week which seniors have been looking forward to is finally here. The week was begun officially on June 1, at 8:30 p.m., when the Maine West cafeteria was transformed into a ship that took its passengers on a "Voyage to Paradise." "Paradise" was a palm‑fringed island which had once been the student lounge. The transformation was under the direction of Jim Lunetto, John Bernero, co‑chairman. The hundred‑odd Gardner McKays and their dates danced to the music of Dan Balloc and his orchestra. Following the prom the couples dispersed for the "Late Date" train ride or some other place of entertainment.
The Baccalaureate or Commencement sermon, which was held on June 3, at 8 p.m. in the Maine East fieldhouse, was next in line of the exciting week's events. The invocation was given by Father Thomas C. Hanley of St. Stephens Catholic church, Des Plaines; the scripture reading was given by the Reverend Jack H. Glenn of the First Presbyterian church, Des Plaines; the sermon, "The Ground We Have In Common," was given by the Reverend Erwin A. Wendt of the Trinity Lutheran church, Des Plaines; and the benediction was also given by the Reverend Jack H. Glenn. This was the first chance for the seniors to wear their robes and march as they would for commencement. Junior girls acted as usherettes.

The Senior Honors assembly was held today at 9 a.m. in the auditorium. At this time the departmental awards, given by each department to a deserving senior of that department, were distributed. These awards are announced elsewhere in this issue of the paper.
On Thursday morning, June 7, at 11 a.m., the anxiously awaited Senior Brunch will be put into orbit in the Maine West cafeteria. The brunch has aroused the curiosity of many seniors, for it is there the awards will be given for "The Biggest Line," "The Cutest Dimples," and other characteristic traits of significance to a graduating senior's future in a cold, cruel world. Under the capable leadership of Sandi Mustradi, the committee has arranged for the brunch and the announcement of awards, with Marie Rozenboom in charge of entertainment. The versatile, deep‑voiced Jim Lunetto, will M.C. the event.
The climax of the senior week, and also the climax of four years of drudgery interspersed with some of the most enjoyable times in a student's life, is graduation night. The Commencement will be held on Friday, June 8, at 8 p.m. in the Maine East fieldhouse.
After the Commencement, the class of 1962 will cease to exist: except for various records and future reunions, the class will remain only in the minds of its members and the teachers who will probably be trying to forget.
