'62 Reunion Held at New School
Hi there, kiddies. This is your on-the-spot-reporter, Gertrude Glink, covering the class of '62's reunion here at the new Maine West Northeast by Southwest high school. The party is being held in the recently opened student's smoking lounge and bar. Bill Downing has sent us Tom Carlin and Tom Janssens, two of his best boy bunnies, direct from his Play Girl club. Tom Mieke is custodian in charge of all keys, so see him if you want to come to the party.
The reason this reunion is being held at the new high school is because Maine West still doesn't have a field house. Be sides, most of our class has come here to teach.
Take for instance Gretch Menger has replaced Mrs. Aegerter as a government teacher, while Gloria Jenkins is teaching democracy. The social science chairman is Bill Semitekel. Tom Hollnagel is head of the speech classes, and working under him are Marilyn Probst and Judy Reid. These two gals have a course called "Da-da goo." Tom took over when Mr. Boyer got the lead in "Medea." Steve Freese and Sandy Bond also are speech teachers.
Over in the English department, we find chairman Chuck Romano with his assistants: Dick Samlow, Bob Lacey, John Korn, George Ziellnski, and Joe Swanson setting poifect examples of gud Ingllsh.
Mary Anna Matteson, Char Gertz, Betty Coffman, Gayle Bauman, Marilyn Manny, and Sandy Mast are working in the Industrial Arts department, (I don't think Terry Pestel minds either - he's chairman!) In the Home Ec. rooms we locate Joe Mitchell, Phil Wankat, Ken Cornelius, Bruce Johns, Larry Lashway, Chuck Weil, Lee Wolf, and Don Seagren cooking(?) up a batch of ?!?
Betty Thiet has her own driving class in which she teaches her own techniques on getting lost, having flat tires, and hitting trees. In this same department we find Kip Dodge, Gary Harmon, Al Utacht, Jim Barca, Bob Jonas, and Dave Larsen teaching a course in "How and Where To Park." Donna Schaller, Maureen Verber, Sandy Mustradi, Mary Ann Conti, Gail Marow, and Nicki Rappaport have all enrolled.
Sue Wallace has a class on how to fix the books. Maybe Lora Eckert and Sue could get together and open a finance company. I was very glad to see that Kathy Glade hasn't changed a bit; she's still teaching a friendship class. However, I was sorry to hear that Bob Engle was fired for his anti "Willie" actions.
In the physical education department, Al Koch has just been appointed assistant pool cleaner. John Montonaro is in charge of making sure guys like Al Mentgen don't jump into the pool in their - uh. Greg Scheve is the head coach, and Dave MacDonald is sponsor of the M-club. Ray Leonardson is an assistant ping-pong coach, but he doesn't have much time to spare, what with his modesty classes. Other coaches are, track, Bob Schultz and Rich Schact; and football, Fred Minch and Don Finco. Head of Girls P.E. is Marilyn Alfini, with her assistants, Sue Pyron, Char Ignarski, Jill Peters, and Carol Artner. Kris Hatfield has just put on another dry-land water show.
Judy Kassnel has replaced Morfit as the new Westerner mascot. Gail Schellin has a night-school class on frowning, while Judi Mueller and Kathy O'Grady are teaching smiling. Denny Toll and Jim Lunetto are co-sponsors of the Good Words club. In his spare moments, Jim tunes guitars. Miss Rosemary Foss is as busy as every with her nursery school but she is getting tough competition from Jan Pater's new school. However, Mimi does find time to sponsor the D.A.R. and Pom-pom squad.
Barb Selman-Tom Morton, Carol Nagel-Rick Warnicke, Arlene Preiss-Dick Fuesz, Marilyn Aifini-Butch Bending, Sue Johnson-Terry Rickert, Kay Gustafson-Vic Oakley, Connie Erdmann-Tim Richards, Diane Voltz-Bruce Parsons, Paula MudgeWalt Dibbern, Char Ignarski-Doug Dorrell, Jan Pater-Dick Samlow, Carol Strasser-Denny Schawel, JoAnne Arrigoni-Joe Figard, and Barb White-Lee Wolf all have classes on how to have eyes for only your steady while in the halls.
John White has a dancing school of his own, and we hear that Mary Spoo was his first customer. Bruce Smith and Donna Cadwallader run a bakery. With their assistants, Marcia Relph, John Bernaro, Gail Kudla, and Jim Huard, they are supplying the school with brownies. Diane Newman gives lessons in using snuff. She is also a nurse's' helper with Kay Hendrickson. Ben Lyson, Connie Carlson, and Mary Dormeyer are sponsors of the Spanish with an English accent club.
In the administration department, better labeled Gertrude's Believe-It-Or-Not, is the Dean of Students, Pat Kent. Gretch Rider and Peggy Wells are the assistants to the assistants to the assistants assistant's assistant. Bob Schnepp has replaced J.J. Deans of girls are Pam Lonchar and Carol Eustice; they are well-acquainted with every excuse. Butch Bending is the college counselor; he tells people where to go. Dan Rowe is the social worker; when he's not busy analyzing people, he lectures on sincereity. Marlene Dube, Diane Moran, and Carlene Eichenfeld are in charge of checking proper skirt lengths, and Don Karolewicz, Walt Eppier, Tom Kalb, and Fred Paeth check hair lengths. Gayl Hammerton and Carol Dussias are the attendence office personnel. Scott Ross is head of the work experience program and is the publicity chairman for all the big dances. Tom Kuersten, who just won a neatness award, is busy with his Freddie Frosh clinic; it's a four year plan. Perhaps Sue Wons, Pat Nowak, Barb Larson, Helen Bresen, Pat Jordon, and Bev Pawelko should have a chat with him since they are still complaining about "Them frosh."
John Saari is the Student Council sponsor and publisher of study guides. Sue Brinkman, is in charge of petitions, and Joe Figard, cliquesmanship. Judy Norg and Carol Hansen are co-sponsors of the Short Girls club. John Riemma and Reino Warren are the head librarians. Dan Hansen is running a cheerleading clinic, while Bob Petkus and Bob Lorentz do the same for the Pom-pom squad.
News of other class members - Admiral Curt Skeppstrom is home visiting his twin brother, Craig, his wife, Barb, and their five sets of twins. Rick Warnicke has just returned from duty as a Peace Corps member. Paul Erickson was jailed for leading an uprising about the flag, and Robin Ziegler has moved up the bigtime; nowadays he's trying to get his name in the Tribune. Karen Patterson is on an African safari; she's still looking for that gushing hot waterfall. John Armbruster and Tom Hollnagel have just returned from one of their campigns for prohibition. Keith Zolla has finally organized his own sect and is teaching Zollism quite actively. His special feature is a collection plate in the center of the table with winner take all. Berta Schorr, Tomi Frasier, and Marilyn Retzlaff each have their own barber shop. Joy Staller, Gary Schlieckert, Marge Fedder, Jon Evertson, Marie Rozenboom, and Joe Waters have moved away from "Our Town." Joyce McGarvey had to leave; her sign painting business went kaput. This has been your reporter, Gertrude Glink, with her 36 children, hoping none of you ever find out who I am! Have fun at the party! Bye, kiddies.
