580 Seniors Reminisce
On the eve of commencement, approximately 580 seniors are preparing to pass another milestone in their lives. For some, the high school years have flown with increasing rapidity. For others the years have been long and difficult and filled with problems.

Most seniors have fond memories of social events, athletic accomplishments, or intellectual stimulation and progress. Every senior will be filled with pride knowing that his class has lived up to the high standards of Maine West. Tears, sighs of relief, and delirious joy will find a place at commencement.

As we look to the future, we must realize that a high school diploma is not the "grand prize": it signifies the ability and readiness to go on to a higher plateau.
Once we reach this plateau, we will find that we have received two educations: one from our teachers, and a more important one from ourselves.

We cannot stand still. If we do not move with progress, we must be reconciled to being forgotten forever. People with integrity, courage, high purposes, and devotion to the task at hand are desperately needed in the world today. We must resolve to be able to contribute over and above that which will be normally required of us in the future years.

With these thoughts and remembrances of useful years filled with happy and carefree days, we bid farewell to Maine West and set our eyes and hearts on the future.
