West Eighth In IC Track
With an eighth-place finish in the Interim League track meet last week, Maine West's varsity cindermen closed out their 1962 outdoor season. It was the first time in three years that a Warrior track team had failed to capture the conference championship.

Earlier, the Westmen had finished in a three-way tie for twenty-second place in this year's state meet. Three Warrior entries, Lee Wolf in the 880, Ray Leonardson in the broad jump, and the mile relay team (Wolf, Leonardson, Vic Oakley, and Chuck Weil), qualified for the finals at Champaign, but only Wolf placed, coming in third in his event.
In the conference meet, the Warriors gained two seconds, a fourth, and three fifths to tally their 12 points. Lee Wolf pulled out a second in the 440-yard run, while Vic Oakley finished fifth in the same event. The other second was gained by the mile relay team, which finished behind Glenbard East's entry.

Other points were contributed by Do Nixon, fourth in the pole vault, Al Klehr, fifth in the broad jump, and Leroy Schlegel, fifth in the 220-yard dash. Nine records fell in the meet, one of them Wolf's mark of 51.5 in the 440, which he set last year.
