Guest Speakers, Field Trips Spotlight Clubs' Activities

White Collar Club

Getting acquainted with business and its functions is the main purpose hoped to be achieved by the White Collar club.

"I'm sure anyone who has an interest in business could gain valuable information and have fun doing it," commented Mrs. Rosella Dieter. Mrs. Dieter and Miss Carol Weber are the club's co‑advisers.

While club members visit business locations, other meetings have guest speakers throughout the year. A banquet and a faculty children's Christmas party are given yearly. All concessions at the basketball games also are the responsibility of the White Collar club.

Presiding over the meetings are president, Kay Gustafson '62; first vice‑president, Marilyn Stocking '62; second vice-president, Mollie Calvert '62; secretary, Rose Jensen '62; and treasurer, Doreen Christ '62.

Students must be seniors and active in the club one year before becoming an officer.

The meetings take place the last Wednesday of every month at 3:20 in the student lounge. Dues are $1 per year.

Girls' Club

"To teach girls responsibility, leadership, and organization are the purposes of Girls' club," related Miss Marilyn Seidlemann, co‑sponsor. All girls automatically become members of the club when they enroll in Maine West.

Representing each class are 10 girls who are chosen after answering a questionnaire. At the end of this year, representatives will be chosen for next year.

Miss Seidelmann and Miss Myrna Loring, co‑sponsors; Mimi Foss '62, president; Vicki Webster '62, vice-president; Sue Lane '63, secretary; and Fran Piraino '63, treasurer, helped to list the many activities which Girls' club sponsors. Among them are the Girls' Choice dance; charity projects; the Senior Faculty tea; the senior girls' Thanks, Mom, night; the Freshmen Mother‑Daughter dessert; the Freshman Big Sis‑Little Miss Gabfest, and the Girls' Club‑Boys' club Christmas party.

Latin Club

Launching its membership drive, the Latin club offers a wide variety of plans which will make this year one of the 7 most productive according to sponsor Mrs. Valerie Hackett.

Looking into the future, field trips, plays, lectures, parties, and other events in which students can take an active part are forecasted.

Mary Saari '64 leads this group as president.

Speakers to talk on world problems, field trips to a local university, a museum, a newspaper, Chicago State hospital, and Chicago are planned for the year.

Plans to sponsor a book sale, care drive, taffy sale, history honor awards, an after dance, and honors assembly will also keep the club occupied.

French Club

Parlez‑vous francais? If you do speak French or try to, you fulfill the one requirement for membership in the French club.

"Refreshments at every meeting, a French movie and a French dinner are among the many things planned for this year," announced Miss Natalie Moment and Mr. Robert Meute, co‑sponsors.

German Club

"Going to German movies, restaurants, and shops are just a few of the plans of the German club this year," said Miss Rosalie Streng, co‑sponsor of this club. Miss Lucinda Parshall is the other sponsor.

The club meets on the last Wednesday of every month from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. Members paying dues of 50 cents per semester will receive membership cards.

Colored slides of Vienna and Salzburg, shown at the last meeting by Miss Parshall, were enjoyed by all present.

"Come out to the next meeting this month. Coke and kuchen will be served," urged Miss Streng.

M‑club members elected to office are president, Lee Wolf '62; vice‑president, Dave Larsen '62; treasurer, Rolfe Gustus '62; secretary, Denny Toll '62.
