Rally Shows Need For Fieldhouse

By Gerry Gray

West's first all‑school pep assembly was given Friday, September 30, on the school lawn. The purpose was to promote school spirit and pep among the students and to give everyone a chance to see the players and coaches.

It was a great improvement over last year when the pep assemblies that were held in A‑wing gym before school. However, a fieldhouse would certainly be a better place to hold the pep rallies.

Although many could not see, some could hear the talks that were given by the coaches and players. Strains of music from the band added to the spirit of the occasion. The cheerleaders could have been heard if more of the students had yelled back the cheers.

From the talks by the coaches and players the students were able to find out just how Maine West rates with other schools. Coach William Barringer emphasized that even though the cross country team has quite a few boys out, there should be more that could booster the team's efforts.

Other entertainment was the performance of the Pom Pom squad even though everyone could not see them.
