Harriers' Hopes High In Conference
Go Tonight

Maine West's varsity thindads enter the Interim league at Willowbrook meet tonight with a three-contest winning streak as the seven best runners from each school battle for conference honors.

The harriers now have a season record of four wins, two losses, and one tie. In conference play, they have lost only one. On Tuesday the Warriors soundly whipped East Leyden's Eagles, 17‑44. Senior Vie Oakley led the field with a time of 10:10 as West grabbed seven of the first 10 places. The first 10 finishers and their times:

At Deerfield last Saturday, it looked as if West were competing against itself as the Warriors completely skunked their foes, 15‑50. Vie Oakley once again paced the harriers, who swept the first 10 places. The first five Warriors to finish were Oakley (9:06), Scott Taylor (9:08), Bob Wagner (9:09), Mike Canar (9:12), and Jim Witkay (9:23).

Coach Barringer's runners downed Glenbrook 25‑32 f o r their second conference victory on October 7. The first five West finishers were Canar (10:54), Oakley (10:59), Lee Wolf (11:00), Wagner (11:03), and Taylor (11:06).

Running through a forest preserve and a quarter mile of hills, West bowed to a strong Glenbard East squad on October 3, 24‑32. Oakley (10:36), Wolf (10:39), Wagner (10:42), Ron Erdmann (10:44), and Canar (10:45).

On a windy morning, September 30, Wheaton's Bertell, rated eighth in the state, ran West's course almost a minute faster than any other thinelad, but the Warriors came back to tame the Tigers by a 20‑42 score. Oakley (11:23), Canar (11:28), Erdmann (11:35), Taylor (11:42), and Wolf (11:44) were the first five Westmen to finish.
