Intramural Winners Named

INTRAMURAL TENNIS COMPETITION was supported by a fine turnout of boys recently, as Bob French won the freshman singles title, and collaborated with Tom Koch to carry off the doubles. Only doubles were played by the sophomores, with John Heckel and John Wentzell ending up as victors. Bill Georgeff was top man in the junior singles matches, and Ken Cornelius and Bruce Parsons took the senior doubles. Ken also won the singles contest.

WINNER OF THE freshman cross‑country meet was Frank Tantone of Mr. Roy Kearns' second period class, who finished with a time of 5:27. After him came John Petruso, David Thinnes, Mike Caradonna, and John Curtain, with times of 5:37, 5:40, 5:41, and 6:05, respectively. In the sophomore division, Ray Mulcahy, also in Mr. Kearns' class, took first with a time of 5:22. Following him were John Arkoos, 5:28, Bill Hauch, 5:32; Ray Gundelach, 5:37; and Vince Neumann, 5:39. The junior and senior meets were postponed because of bad weather.

COACH KEN OLSON'S fourth period junior leaders were victors in the junior touch football tournament. A group of senior leaders took first in the senior division. Frosh‑soph winners will be determined later.

THE FROSH‑SOPH HARRIERS after dropping Tuesday's meet to East Leyden, now sport a season mark of four wins and three losses. Last Saturday the runners barely nosed out Deerfield 29‑30. The Warriors placed only one man in the first four spots, but then bounced back by sweeping the last six positions. The first five West runners were Meyer (8:12), Abbott (8:25, Schlegel (8:28), Bushkin (8:29), and Biggs (8:30).

THE WARRIORS AND East Leyden ran the same length course as their varsity counterparts, as the Eagles downed West, 23‑32. The first five Warrior finishers in this meet were Biggs (10:54), Boyce (11:00), Suszko (11:05), Alfini (11:16), and Eisfeldt (11:21).

THE VARSITY HARRIERS have been running recently without the services of letterman Bob Jonas, '62, who has been nursing an injured ankle, and Lee Wolf, 62, out with the mumps. Ron Erdmann, '63, also missed some action because of a sprained back.

THE FROSH‑SOPH GRIDDERS were recently fitted for mouth guards. The cost of these protective devices, which will be required for all Illinois football players next year, was paid by the Des Plaines Kiwanis. Local dentists made the mouthpieces.
