Warrior Of The West

"Was Annie Oakley really your great‑grandmother?" This is a question often asked of Vic Oakley, '62.

This handsome senior is one of Mr. Barringer's best runners and hardest workers. This was evident last Saturday when Vie finished first in a meet against Deerfield with an impressive time of 9:06 over the Deerfield course.

In his sophomore year while running on the frosh‑soph track squad he earned his numerals. Last year Vie earned his letter in both cross country and track. He ran the quarter mile, half mile and was a member of the mile relay team.

Despite his active part in athletics Vic has maintained a B‑plus average in his three years at Maine.

"Sickness and injuries have somewhat hampered this year's harriers. For several meets we had to run without several of our top runners," replied Vie when asked of this year's team. Looking forward to the conference meet he thinks Proviso and Wheaton will be tough to beat since they have several good runners.

Concerning past experiences and thrills he mentioned winning the conference championship in track, but "just being on the team and running with a great group of guys is a big thrill," according to Vic.

Most books and just about any type of music from classical to rock and roll are found to be enjoyable by this easy going brown haired lad, who, by the way, has no pet peeves.

Glancing ahead toward college, Vic can foresee majoring in science and mathematics at some out‑of‑state school. There is just one more item remaining concerning our Warrior, was Annie Oakley really his great-grandmother? How about it, Vic, was she?
